We can receive, experience, and choose thoughts. We cannot create thoughts. If we could create thoughts we could keep ourselves in a thought paradise at all times. If you believe you can create thoughts, describe in detail what a thought is made of (the type and intensity of energy, etc.) and how you install and utilize the thought.
I believe that you can create thoughts and ideas. Because an idea can change your life. Thought creation is a process of the mind, and the mind is capable of thinking anything and everything. One does have the option of choosing the thoughts, but also has the ability to create own ideas.
stephenmorphey, Please explain in detail how you create and install a thought from start to finish, so we can all be in a thought paradise whenever we want, and never have to experience any uncomfortable thoughts. I submit you cannot do that. Thoughts, helpful and harmful, good and evil, true and false, are offered up in your mind for you to choose from. Intelligence other than you is responsible for all that, and not some lump of CREATED tissue. Many people today are tormented and miserable. Do you think they start the day by choosing to create and install the thoughts which torment them?

Yes, I agree with you that we seem to be mere recipient of our thoughts, which we choose from the universal thought waves. It is said that there are all kinds of thoughts in the universe, so it is up to you, in which mass of thought you want to channelize with; and it will start to flow towards you in multitude. That's why a religious mind always is in tune of the universal thought channel which always offers him similar range of thoughts, so is true for a criminal mind and so on. Though, sometimes, it seems that even our choice of orientation is governed under some kind of hidden universal law.
naulo,

You didn't mention God, so I want to ask you, Do you believe an intelligence is responsible for the thoughts which are offered in our mind to choose from, or do you believe thoughts come from no intelligence whatsoever, as the atheists and evolutionists do?

I believe in God as a supreme intelligence, or you can say an ocean consciousness, if we consider ourselves as a drop of ocean. In a way we are one with God, and in a way there is no possibility of comparison. Since our soul is eternal and we are with God quality, in a way we are a conscious chooser of any thought, however thought gets patterned and becomes habit, and we channelize more into the similar kind of thought. So, in a way we select the thought as the trainer of visualization or spiritual leaders suggest: to chose the thought of forgiveness, to chose the thought of compassion, to choose the thought of surrender; and in a way we are bound to think in certain ways with certain content. Sometimes it feels like I have the clue to answer this clearly, and sometimes, I feel like first I have to spend more time in contemplation analyzing this matter to its minutest level.

How can I call myself an atheist, as long as I witness so many miracles every day, the greatest one is me myself, so many complex body systems, so systematic.
